I

September has certainly tested my resolve and character this month more than usual. I believe that anytime we are on the verge of doing something that will improve our lives, we are tested. Sometimes those tests are quite painful. Growth is and will always be painful, but it is necessary for both our physical and mental development. I fully and deeply understand why people stop trying to grow, as sometimes the pain feels worse than the potential gain. I have certainly felt that way this month, but I will never stop forcing myself to grow.
I believe that this happens for a variety of reasons, but it really depends on what your belief is in life. I know what my beliefs and purpose are, and I know that if I stay strong, I will persevere in the end. I guess my only question is, will all this aggravation and stress be worth it in the end, or am I just forcing myself to believe in something that isn’t attainable? Although I am able to encourage and help others, I just can’t seem to find anyone to do the same for me. I believe that is by design to force me to become stronger and more comfortable with myself.
We had a great summer season, and I want to thank all of the staff for their tireless work. I am certainly happy that fall is here, though. I am looking forward to the cooler weather, as that’s more ideal for golfing and hiking.
Our jacuzzi renovation is complete. Everything came out well, and we only had to delay our opening by two weeks. Considering the magnitude of that job, I am very pleased with that timeline. For those of you who love the outdoor pool and summer season, you had an extra two weeks this year. However, as is always the case, those who always ask for the outdoor pool to stay open in September tend not to use it. We look forward to seeing all of our summer swimmers next year!
The golf course will continue to stay open throughout the fall season. For those of you who didn’t get in enough golf this summer, now is the time to come out and play. I personally love golf in the fall–you have the added challenge of finding your ball in the middle of the fairway under the leaves. However, I can’t say that my ball is always in the middle of the fairway.
I hope all of you are able to go out and enjoy this fall season and find something to do that makes you happy. I speak with so many people in life who always say that they don’t like to do anything. To me, I just don’t even know what that means. If you truly have never experienced anything in your life that you like to do, then my recommendation is to try something that you have never done. How can you possibly know whether or not you like something if you don’t at least go and try it?
Almost everything in my life today that I love to do are things that I never would have tried five years ago. Now I have tried many different things over the last five years, and many of them I didn’t like. Yet, I now know that I don’t like those things and have no need to try them again. If you’re one of many who sit at home and are bored watching television, scrolling, organizing, or on the phone talking about others, why don’t you make this fall the season that you try something new and see how it goes? The worst thing that can happen is you do something you don’t like, and then you never have to do it again. Maybe you find something that you love, and your entire outlook on life can change for the better. I don’t know about you, but I think that is something worth trying.
We had the best turnout that I can recall in many years for our 9/11 Memorial last month. I want to thank all of you who attended the service not only this year, but for the last twenty-five years. Tony Sikorski and Rich Wanger started the service, and it has continued every year since. Tony passed away twelve years ago, and it was a tremendous loss to the community and to the memorial. Rich has continued it since Tony’s passing, and I have had the privilege of working alongside him; I am truly grateful for that time. Rich made a promise to Tony that he would carry on the memorial for as long as he could, and he has certainly fulfilled this promise. Due to health issues and it being the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and the 250th birthday of America, Rich has decided that this was the appropriate time to make this his last one. We wish Rich improvement in his health and a sincere thank you for his dedication and commitment to the memorial for all of these years.
We will never forget!
Tomorrow is promised to nobody, and none of us get out of here alive. We all have to remember to take time and be grateful for what we have. I clearly want more from life, as I think all of us do. With that being said, I love my life and those who I surround myself with. I definitely have days when I think that things could and should be better, but that’s not what I focus on. I try to focus on the things that I can do now that one day I won’t be able to.
I have been going through a significant amount of dental work and have had several surgeries and complications. Each time I have surgery, I can’t exercise at all, which for me is the only way I know how to decompress successfully. All the walks and sunrises in the world aren’t enough to help me find a healthy and balanced equilibrium. So, between having all the other issues in life, being in pain, and not being able to exercise, I have definitely had my challenges. Yet, not one person had any idea, as I force myself to be in a good mood and available to everyone.
October brings us the following holidays and days of significance: Columbus Day and Halloween.
